Introduction : NEB Grading System

By analyzing some data from international institutes, NEB and from Rumors we have collected some great information about the +2 grading system in Nepal. Other information will be added on this page on coming days so keep visiting here to vanish your curiosity completely. Keep on reading the next few paragraphs to know about grading system in NEB. Grading System in Nepal ; SEE vs. NEB

First of all, all of us know that the full marks of NEB Grading is 4 (like SEE). Class 11 and 12 result shows subject wise grading where separate grading of theory and practical is given and also the total obtained GPA. But aggregate marks (which is given in Transcript) of class 11 and 12 will show your total aggregate GPA including the total grades in each subject in average.

In SEE, a person needs to secure more than 3.6 GPA to secure A+, more than 3.2 to secure A and so on. But, in NEB mark sheet or Transcript, you will find only your GPA but not letter grade such as A+, A, B+, etc. So, only consider your GPA points but not letter grade and don't worry if you achieve slightly less than so called A+ or A or B+ and so on. [ Detailed information is in next paragraph ]

Note: Only GPA is written in the NEB mark sheet but not the Grade (like A+, A, B+, B, etc.) so still it's not clear that >3.6 is A+ or >3.5 is A+ or else as NEB hasn't officially declared that and I think it will not so as to focus on GPA but not on the grade which is equivalent to that GPA.

Core concept of GPA Calculation in NEB:

On analyzing the NEB Examination Result and information from various sources, we have found that the GPA of Subjects with Practical marks is calculated by adding 75% of theory and 25% of practical and that of subjects with no practical marks is added as it is. You should also consider credit hours of theory and practical of each subject. The method of calculation of GPA is given below:

GPA of a Subject without practical (like Mathematics, English, Nepali, etc) = (Theory Marks x Theory Credit Hours) / Total Credit Hours

GPA of a Subject with practical (like Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, etc) = [ (Theory Marks x Theory Credit Hours) + (Practical Marks x Practical credit hours) ] / Total Credit Hours
Theory Marks or Practical Marks = 4 if A+, 3.6 if A, 3.2 if B+, 2.8 if B and so on. (For Above Calculation)

TOTAL GPA = [ Total Marks of all Subjects / Total Credit Hours of all subjects ]

{ NEB's Official Websitehttp://www.neb.gov.np }

What is Credit Hour for Theory and Practical of each Subject ?

Credit Hours for Theory of any Subject = 4.69
Credit Hours for Practical of any Subject = 1.56

NEB Grading System for +2 Aggregate Marks:

The aggregate marks which is present in your transcript is calculated simply by taking average of GPA you obtained in class 11 and 12. For example, if you got 3.45 in class 11 and 3.57 in class 12 then your aggregate GPA of +2 is (3.45+3.57)/2 = 3.51.

Who Should Give Re-Exam?

If you have got C, D+, D or E in any subject then you should participate in chance exam. And if you have got C, D+, D or E on more than two subjects then you can only give re-exam of two subjects. Then, you should give re-exam of remaining subjects next year.
